The Original Gold Rush Colony in Mogo is a multi award-winning tourism attraction, Gold history and Australian culture educational facility, with on-site accommodation set on 13 bushland acres within the Mogo State Forest.
The Original Gold Rush Colony first opened as Old Mogo Town on a small scale in November 1991 and was acquired by the present owner s in November 2000. The Original Gold Rush Colony is a reconstructed village depicting life in the Gold Rush days of the 1850’s, built on 4.5 hectares of Australian bushland nestled between Mogo Village and the Mogo State Forest.
Pan for real gold, visit the antique machinery shed, get a ‘wanted’ picture taken by our in-house photographer, check out authentic buildings and static displays, and listen to the on–site working rock crusher. Schools experience a huge range of extra activities chosen from the specially designed schools programs which can include on-site artisans, bushrangers, bush dances and 1850’s style lessons
The Original Gold Rush Colony is a stay-another-day tourist attraction offering 3½ star accommodation in cabins or bunkrooms and can accommodate up to 120 guests. All cabins are self contained and can sleep up to 9 people. Make use of the communal camp kitchen for cooking up a storm.
Our Diggers Rest Tavern function room seats 100 guests for weddings with the rustic feel, school groups and conferences. This offers guests the opportunity to take one step beyond the day experience.
The Original Gold Rush Colony (nee Old Mogo Town) has won many awards in Heritage and Cultural Tourism, including the 2008, 2009 and 2010 South Coast Tourism Awards.
The Original Gold Rush Colony is open every day except Christmas day,
from 10am to 4pm.
